Brooke's Story

My journey to acupuncture began with a personal struggle—one that many can relate to. I don’t remember exactly how I injured my back, but I’ll never forget the searing pain that shot down my right leg with every movement. I tried everything, with only mixed results, until I finally turned to acupuncture. At my first appointment, I expected my practitioner to focus solely on my pain, but to my surprise, they also asked about my stress levels. That moment was a turning point. By addressing both my physical discomfort and the underlying stress that contributed to it, acupuncture completely changed my healing process. Over the last 20 years, I’ve experienced firsthand the powerful benefits of acupuncture, Chinese herbs, meditation, and Qigong—practices that have allowed me to live pain-free and cultivate a healthier, more balanced life.

Twelve years ago, during a career transition, I chose to pursue nursing, earning both my BSN and MSN from Johns Hopkins University. Becoming a registered nurse has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my professional life. Working in both inpatient and outpatient care, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the incredible advancements of modern medicine, as well as its limitations. I’ve worked alongside compassionate, highly skilled practitioners who are deeply committed to their patients. Yet, I’ve also seen the frustration—patients searching for deeper healing and providers constrained by a system that doesn’t always allow for a truly holistic approach. As remarkable as conventional medicine is, it’s unrealistic to expect one model of care to provide all the answers.

This realization sparked my passion for acupuncture—not as an alternative, but as a complementary approach to bridge the gap between conventional medicine and ancient Chinese healing. I pursued my acupuncture studies at the Maryland University of Integrative Health, earning a Master of Acupuncture, and now blend my expertise in nursing, oncology, and Chinese medicine to offer a more comprehensive, patient-centered path to wellness. My goal is to work in partnership with you, combining the best of both worlds to help you achieve optimal health, lasting balance, and a vibrant life.
