Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the practice of using filiform needles, very fine and solid needles, inserted at specific locations on the body. This holistic approach to treatment is a body, mind spirit approach to healing. Insertion of the needles stimulates the nervous and endocrine systems to restore balance and harmony across all body systems. Acupuncture leverages your body’s innate healing ability to naturally return to a state of wholeness. Each treatment is individualized, taking into consideration your unique constitution, disharmony and presenting symptoms.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion or moxa is a therapeutic technique used independently or in combination with other Chinese medicine healing techniques. While providing significant benefit in our clinic we use moxa sparingly. Moxa involves the burning of dried mugwort on acupuncture points and the smoke generated can be irritating to some individuals.
Cupping
Cupping is the use of specialized glass or plastic cups that create suction on the skin. Cupping is an excellent therapy to release muscle tension and stagnation. The suction created during a cupping treatment causes the skin and superficial muscle layer to be lightly drawn into the cup. This supports the release of tension and encourages increase blood flow which will move stagnation and toxins out of the local area. Mild bruising at the site of cupping therapy is common.
Gua Sha
Gua Sha is a therapy that involves scraping the skin with a specialized tool to improve circulation and release toxins. This therapy is used extensively to relieve symptoms of the common cold and other acute pain. Mild bruising at the site of gua sha therapy is common.
