Brooke's Story
My struggle with back pain brought me to acupuncture. I don’t remember how I hurt my back but I do remember the intense pain shooting down my right leg whenever I moved. I tried a lot of different things with mixed results. At my first acupuncture appointment my practitioner asked about my pain, and to my surprise also asked about my stress. The combination of working on pain and stress changed everything for me, and over the last 20 years, I have personally experienced the benefits of acupuncture, Chinese herbs, meditation, and Qigong to live pain-free and improve my overall health.
Twelve years ago when I went through a career change, I chose to pursue nursing, and hold a BSN and MSN from Johns Hopkins University. Working as a registered nurse has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career. As a registered nurse with experience providing inpatient and outpatient care, I’ve witnessed the miracles and challenges of our Western medical system. I’ve worked with amazing practitioners who care deeply for their patients yet far too often practitioners and patients are frustrated by some aspect of treatment. For all the benefits of conventional medicine, it is a lot to expect one medical approach to provide all the answers.
My interest in studying acupuncture was born from a desire to bring together the best of conventional and ancient Chinese medicine, to create the best possible patient experience and health outcomes. I completed my acupuncture studies at Maryland University of Integrative Health and hold a Masters of Acupuncture. By leveraging my skills and experience in nursing, oncology, and ancient Chinese medicine, it’s my goal to work in partnership with you to achieve optimal wellness and embrace a healthy lifestyle.
